Not necessarily. Rampant egomania, yes; sinister designs or hidden
agendas, probably not.
Heck, the American FactFinder at census.gov won't let you in without
stuffing their cookie in your mouth, and I cannot imagine what nefarious
use could be made of the fact that I visited there and used their
information on census stats 1990.
Many servers simply consider cookies *the* way to keep automated records
of how many times each page was hit, what kind of equipment their
visitors are using (we had 999,912 visitors, 300,543 used Netscape v5,
435,821 used IE6, and the rest had Mosaic or Lynx; 400,765 had a P2x400,
47,784 had a 386x33 ...) It's rather like bookkeepers who figure
double-entry is *the* way to keep books.
