Yesterday, one of my fellow scouters in Troop 1570 pointed me to:
http://www.geocities.com/~pack215/sanda-changes.html
outlining soon-to-be-implemented changes to the Cub Scout Sports and
Academics program. Included in these changes is the addition of four new
beltloops/pins, including Chess.
I assume this information to be accurate - can anyone on the list confirm?
Chess is a fun, popular, exciting, positive activity, and I think it's great
that BSA has added this to the S&A program. Some time ago, I asked those on
the list to give me their thoughts about chess, so I could pass them on to
National. Many of you responded, and I, along with the Secretary of the US
Chess Federation, sent letters to National conveying your support for the
idea. It looks like we were eventually heard - thank you for your
responses!
(by the way, I think all of the proposed S&A changes are excellent!)
