Re: Adirondack Canoeing

Hi Chuck,

I'm sorry I don't know of any outfitters in the Adirondacks, which is what
you asked for.

I just had a thought to share.

Like you, we have our own canoes and trailer. We've paddled the Boundary
Waters in Minnesota several times using our own gear to outfit ourselves.
We have saved hundreds of dollars per trip doing this and keeps costs down
significantly for our Scouts. We just have the cost of food and gas.
Even with splurging on a motel enroute and return, our 9 day Boundary
Waters trips are only about $15 more than the cost of summer camp. (We
go to a BSA summer camp each year too)

You might want to weigh the cost of renting canoes vs the cost of
purchasing Duluth packs and any other necessary gear you might need.

I've found that purchasing new equipment can be a very good investment
which minimizes the cost of future trips.

By owning equipment instead of renting we have saved thousands of dollars
over the years. Of course it depends on your program and how many future
trips you'll utilize that equipment.

YIS,
