Church and Scouts, ouch this might step on some toes!

Yes that is true with LDS units, but I have seen very few church chartered
units that do not campout over to Sunday.

I guess some clergy members do have a narrow mind about scouting and I have
had a few heated conversations with my own pastor about the church and
scouting. Our pastor even tried to get rid of scouting by refusing to sign
the charter because of liability reasons, and the church has had a troop for
over 35 years, and he had only been out pastor for 2 years!

As with all good Southern Baptist Churches we put it to a vote with the
congregation, of course we had to eat dinner first (A Baptist Thing)! The
entire membership present voted to keep scouting and almost voted out the
pastor! Of course had about 30 uniformed adults spread throughout the
sanctuary, that did not hurt any!

As a Sunday School teacher I have found that many older Baptist church
members think that scouting will take away from the Baptist RA program
(Royal Ambassadors), this is for young boys in the church, how wrong can
they be! If anything scouting should be looked at as part of a churches
outreach ministry, A SCOUT IS REVERENT!

Our troop holds a scouting type church service every Sunday we campout, it
last about 15 min. and has a few songs a message that usually has to do with
the outdoors or everyday life.
