Sharon,

The troops I've been associated with allow time at the end of the meeting,
but before the SM Minute and closing, for announcements, and there are a
couple
of good reasons for this. First, many of the parents are there to pick up
"Johnny"
so they get to hear about what's coming up; it also keeps the Scouts from
being distracted druing the rest of the meeting; and there's time immediately
after dismissal for the boys to sign up for any upcoming activity while the
idea is still
fresh in their minds (make sure sign-up sheets are posted separately for each
activity). Franco Piccione's post about handouts and newsletters is also a
good
idea. Hope this helps.
