I enjoyed reading Kip's comments on this subject. Added credibility based
on his membership in the silent drill team. BTW, a truly awesome
organization. Semper Fi, Kip!
My two cents. Marching is not an exclusive military function. Marching is
a worldwide activity for civilians, as well as military organizations. Most
major colleges and high schools have marching organizations. There are also
1,000's of Drum and Bugle organizations throughout the world. These
organizations develop a strong sense of teamwork, pride and discipline. All
good things for the youth of today.
As an alumni of the 325 member Marching Virginians of VA Tech, I can tell
you, marching is a good thing. The discipline, hard work, camaraderie, and
pride that was instilled in me from that experience continues to live within
me 20 years later.
I am not advocating that scouts develop a strong focus on drilling or
marching. My feeling is a little of it, won't hurt anyone.

"It has long been an established observation that those who learn this

don't these seem like they're maybe a tad bit related to Citizenship,
