Living the Oath.....

Thank you for all the private and public responses that have been
written in answer to a concerned Mom. We wrote to you in the interest
of the 3 boys involved seeking suggestions and insight for resolving
this glitch.

That's right, that's all this really was, an unintentional glitch! And
the fact that this forum can become a sounding block for solutions to a
simple problem like this seems really healthy and in the Scout Spirit.
When the discrepancy was realized by this 12 year old scout, and
obviously not able to be simply resolved for him and the other 2 boys
from within, this scouting forum was accessed for it's resources. It
was hoped that our own devoted and highly skilled troop leaders and the
3 boys would benefit from some of the information supplied by other
scouters on this site based on their own past experiences. Your
thoughtful responses were deeply appreciated.

We had hoped to acquire this help from you from a standpoint of truth
but without specifics, as far as any troop or other individuals were
concerned. That's why my posting made no reference to those identities.
This was a question of process, and not of blame or condemnation. We
wrote from the heart for the welfare of 3 good scouts with the best of
intentions. I was one of those parents who, for the last year and a
half, have stood back and not intervened in the scout/leader process.
Only when it seemed necessary did I, in this instance, initiate an
inquiry into procedures.

I feel saddened that names were ever added to this discussion.

I have deeply and sincerely apologized for any misconstrued intentions,
having immediately apologized privately to the party that was offended.
And now I repeat my sentiments publicly to anyone else who was
personally disappointed.

We just have to fix the glitch and move on....this isn't an issue of
right or wrong.

In closing it seems to me that there's no problem or situation
confronting the parties involved that can't be satisfactorily resolved
by renewing their committment to apply the principles of Scouting (Scout
Oath and Law) and goodwill.

YIS.......Marcie Ward
Mom and Scouter
