river crossings

we have a 50 miler in August in the Olympic Mountains. we are doing the
Lowe Divide Trail and will have at least 3 stream/river crossings. we
anticipate high water levels from the very heavy winter snow.
I would appreciate any help the list could provide on how to safely make a
stream/river crossing.
1. undo your hip belt and chest strap.
