I have carried Ben's insect repellant (small container, 100% DEET) Have
planned on being in the tent as it begins to get dark (9:30). Have found
head nets very useful some years, particularly during the portages and
preparing meals in the evening. The bug pressure is quite variable from one
year to another.
On the service project, we have cleaned up each campsite we have used.
Normally find most campers leave some trace they have been there prior to
our arrival. We were camping with a high adventure group in the late 80's
when a similar wind storm came through knocking down trees and creating a
real mess. All we could do to get the canoes and gear through the trail.
Very little we could do in clearing trails without chain saws, axes etc..
Tried to clear the campsites we were in the next two days.
Can't help you on the Vikings.
Have fun.
