While on another foray through an old book store, I found and acquired a
copy of the How Book of Cub Scouting (copyright 1951). Not only have I
found this 443 page book to be filled with great ideas spanning the first
20 years of Cubbing, but I have a hard time retrieving it from my elder
son, a Webelos Scout. Here are just a few items:
Akela's Pack (tune: I've Been Working on the Railroad)
We're a Pack of happy Cub Scouts,
"Webelos" is our tribe.
We are waiting to be Boy Scouts
When we become of age.
Don't you want to come and join us--
Join our happy Pack?
Don't you want to be Cub Scout?
Come, and "Do Your Best."
(Cheer) YOUR BEST.
Mother and Cub Clothespin Race
Here is a race that is easy to get mothers to enter.
Assisted by her son, who runs to get the clothespins,
mother pins one or more paper napkins on a line.
(Good for Pack meeting)
Square Hopping
Make two squares with chalk, or use sidewalk sections.
These squares must not be nearer together than five feet.
Start a boy in either square; he must see how many times he can
jump or step into the squares in a 15-second interval.
This is a pretty strenuous game, so be sure the period
does not exceed 15 seconds.
(Good for Den meeting)
