Tee,
The mother's pin is intended for wear on civilian attire and not for uniform
attire. However, I suspect that in most places a good number of parents
wear them because they are proud of their children's accomplishments and not
too many complain. Still it would be better to remember that the uniform is
for the things you've earned and not what your son has earned.
