====================================================================
!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
====================================================================

Hi all ...

In order to have a smooth listserv PLEASE following the
following guidelines when posting.

------------------
Posting Guidelines
------------------
The posting guidelines are:

- The BEST guidelines in ALL postings is to abide by the Scouts Oath
and Promise. It is valid to discusss ideas and to disagree
but NEVER on a personal level.

- Dont quote messages when replying (if you feel you just have to, then
EDIT OUT ALL BUT WHAT IS MINIMUMLY NECESSARY)

- No chain emails. If you read ANY email that says "...pass this on..."
you should be wary of it ... 99.999% of them are bogus. Please
dont waste everyone's time with it.

- Dont use MIME or HTML (ie attach files, notes, etc). Readup on
how to user your email software so you DONT make mistakes.

- Use private email whenever possible (congratulations, welcome, etc.)
- Keep length of lines 72 characters or less
- Keep signature lines reasonable in length (4-5 lines max)
- Include your return email address on your signature line
- Keep topics limited to scouting and youth programs
- No commercial or fund raising advertising
- Learn how to use your email software so you dont make mistakes

If you have misplaced your copy of the WELCOME file, you can get
a new one by sending email to "LISTSERV@listserv.tcu.edu" with a one line
message (no signature lines) that says "GET SCOUTS-L WELCOME".

There is a 50 message limit per day on the list and we've been
hitting it on a daily bases lately. This limit is there for several
reasons including limiting the amount of resources being used on
our computers, stopping "run-a-way" posts, and what I call a "get
a life" factor :) I currently have no intentions to change this
limit ... so ... keep in mind the audience of your posting and if
appropriate, use private email.

--------------
USING LISTSERV
--------------
There are 2 main email addresses you need to know when using
SCOUTS-L and the LISTSERV:

1) The address "SCOUTS-L@listserv.tcu.edu" is ONLY used for
posting messages.

2) The address "LISTSERV@listserv.tcu.edu" is used to interact
with the LISTSERV program to subscribe, unsubscribe, change options
etc. Because this is a computer program, do NOT send mime, signature
lines, etc. They will only be interpreted as invalid commands and
the listserv will eventually ignore anything you send. Some
important commands are:
HELP
SUBSCRIBE SCOUTS-L Your Name
UNSUBSCRIBE SCOUTS-L
SET SCOUTS-L DIGEST
SET SCOUTS-L NOMAIL
SET SCOUTS-L MAIL

The listserv program "knows" you by your "From" email address. If
for ANY reason your return address changes, the listserv will no longer
recognize you as as subscriber. The only recourse is to UNSUBSCRIBE
using your old email address and SUBSCRIBE using your new one.

Adhearing to these guidelines will help keep SCOUTS-L a quality list
in which EVERYONE is comfortable in being associated with.

Thanks for listening :)

Yours in Scouting,
Jon Eidson, Listowner Scouts-L
