Re: "Let Them Pray. . ."

Gary A. Musselman (Gaalmus@AOL.COM)
Tue, 1 Jun 1999 22:37:27 EDT

udy Yeager wrote a great response to my comments on the original post. She
took exception, writing: "I must object to the phrase '. . . abrogation of
parental
responsibility to the schools . . .' " and she continued to cite her and her
family's experiences to show the general failure of teachers and the school
system to do other than create "throwaway kids." She cried for an atmosphere
of mutual support.

I can't fault her.

However, two things seem worth noting: First, some (maybe many) parents do
exactly as I said. They let others do the character building work in their
children. Some times, that works and some times it doesn't. Some times the
character built by others isn't what we had in our minds. Those parents are
glad to have someone else do the work Judy has tried so hard to do.

Second, aren't we all responsible for letting schools - and/or society - get
the way they are? Who elects legislators and school boards? Who lets laws
and rules become so skewed away from everything we say we believe in that the
results are what we delare unacceptable? We do.

YIS,
Gary M.
