Re: Man vs. Woman in Scouting

I thought one of the things scouting taught was when you are in uniform, you
are equal.
Men bring very amazing skills to scouting.
As do women. I have seen some women that are better knot tiers, campers,
firebuilders, etc., than men. So what.
In uniform we are all scouts and have a standard to live up to and a job to
do. Give the boys an ultimate program. Trainers don't say, "Women do the
MB's that are 'the easy ones' and Men do the Manly ones!" They say give your
boys the ultimate program.
Being female can be good in some situations. I have been an assistant
scoutmaster for 4 years now, a woman in scouting for 11.
Do I believe that women should be in scouting? Well, as a rule no. But who
is going to take over now that society has ruined the American family. What
percentage of families don't have a man in the home. So the problem falls
back to the mom.
I live in a fantasy world and still believe that men should be the ones
volunteering for Boy Scout leader jobs. In some communities, it just isn't
happening. I live in such a community. I am a Unit Commissioner in a
community that is just the opposite, there are more men leaders than women.
But let me clarify something. Yes, women can bring a lot to the scouting
program. AS LEADERS ONLY

Please notice the above was about men and women, the following is about girls
and boys.

Do I believe that girls should be in Boy Scouting NO WAY? These boys have
enough problems at school and in life general dealing with things. Let them
have a sanctuary, where they can just come out and be "boys." Being female,
and an assistant scoutmaster, you learn to deal with things like body noises
and gross things.
Girls need that sanctuary, where they can just be girls also.
I personally would not let my son in an organization like scouting, that was
coed at the age of 12 or 13. Not on your life. The situation is just not a
good one. Boys and girls in the woods or on a hike or at the same camp site
during puberty.
Now don't get me wrong, the Venturing program is good with the right
leadership. Because the kids are older. But there are just too many things
that could go wrong.
It's just like the situation at the Citadel. Why do girls want to come in
there and mess things up? Let it be. Women had Vassar and that went coed.
Now it is not the same education that it once was. Don't get me wrong I am
not knocking Vassar. But you used to hear of women saying that she was a
Vassar grad and that meant something. You were a cut above. Vassar is just
like all the rest of the colleges now. What makes it stand out. (please
Vassar grads don't flame me. It is the only all female college that I had
knowledge of)
And yes, we women have done this to ourselves, we wanted equal rights, now
that we have them we don't want them so much. You very seldom hear a man say
things like well why should I be the one to go out and earn a living when my
kids are young.
I hope and pray that the two organizations will never merge. Let's let the
kids be kids and enjoy an age old tradition in both organizations. Why have
one when we can have two!
I have my son's in Boy Scouting and my daughter was in Girl Scouting. I want
it left that way. I can only imagine the scenes if my sons and daughter were
in the same unit. God help us all!
I am sorry this is long, but we Americans have this tendency, when something
is gong good, to go in and mess it up. I am female, but I believe in the old
school. There are just some things better left alone.
