Re: national and email

Regarding Mike Walton's comment on email and Steven Tyler's response. Many
years ago I met Dan Ruth at Philmont Training Session (I think it was in
1981). I mentioned the possibilities of computers and the internet. He
said that the BSA would never (yes, he said - never) get involved. So I
guess I agree with Steven. National eventually will have to do it because
that will be come the preferred method of communication for the entire
country.

I believe that there is a big difference between being cautious and
considering all eventualities when making changes. BSA does this and I
applaud them for it. On ther other hand, there also is the ostrich
mentality. Unfortunately, as in the case of Mr. Ruth, that too is
prevelant at headquarters.

To be fair, however, this statement comes from a writer who, in the 1970's,
said he would never use a computer and now is webmaster for his council's
home page. Well, you live and learn.
YiS
Michael
