Jan, Even better is to look for the word "Pareve" or "Parve" near the K,
O-U, or other symbol. That word means "No meat or dairy products" in
the ingredients (effectively vegetarian). There are also other Kosher
certification symbols, like a K in a triangle or circle, cRc in a
triangle, Ko in a rectangle, etc.

There are true non-dairy coffee whiteners, but most do contain sodium
caseinate, which is a milk protein. The best place to find them, and
other pareve items is in a grocery that serves a Jewish community.
