The Lafayette Range, at Franconia Notch, is not as high as Washington, so
might be snow-free by now. You can camp at the state park in Franconia Notch
(I think it's called Lafayette Place). The hike along the knife-edge from
Mount Lafayette south (or vice-versa) across Lincoln, Haystack, and Flume (I
may have forgotten one - it's been a few years!) is spectacular -- all above
the tree line. On the other side of the notch is Mount Kinsman and Cannon
Mountain - also fun hikes.
