Friends,
I know Philmont has a small year-round population (human and animal), but
do we have treks going every month? I doubt it; the boys are in school.
Now, allowing for a couple of months when there are sessions at the Training
Center, that still leaves some time when there's not an awful lot going on
out in the backcountry. If our military really needs the area, let 'em have
it. For three or four months per year. And then they can go elsewhere when
the risk to human inhabitants is too high to stay around Philmont.
I still love to go to air shows, and a B-1 at low level can really grab
your attention, but we don't need them around camp in the summer. Let's see
if there isn't some kind of compromise that can be worked out.
