I don't want to beat this thread to death. However, I would hope the leaders
take advantage of the teaching materials at www.lnt.org to see how the
National Outdoor School and Leave No Trace suggests doing dishes. I know that
there is a difference between car camping and backcountry camping in the meals
that are planned and the activities that are understaken so I can understand
differences in doing dishes as a single unit with big pots with chlorine
sanitizers or as small patrols or crews doing their own dishes. That is not
the issue here. The issue is that we (BSA in general) in our camping
practices need to minimize our impact on the environment. We (again BSA in
general) have elected to abide by the LNT principles. We can't do that if we
are uninformed. Read NOLS Soft Paths, download the teaching material offered
at the LNT site. Make a difference in how BSA is viewed by others.
