Re: Background Checks we do them

At 23:28 -0600 on 3/30/1999, Scott Patterson mailed Background Checks
we do them:

>To find out if a person has an arrest record you must contact every
>law enforcement agency and court in the city, county and state that
>the person lives in or has lived in. Very seldom are crimes (unless
>violent or sexual) reported to other agencies or courts, even in the
>same county! A good example is the area that I live in. We have 3
>counties that all share common boarders. All three have good size
>towns and cities each with its own police force, sheriffs department
>and court system. To find out what a person has done we have to go
>to each police department, sheriffs department and municipal court
>in each town and then to the county court in each county. And then
>we start interviewing neighbors and friends and the list goes on.

>We charge on the average $1200 for a complete background on a person.

Hoo boy, and I thought Idaho was behind the times. We are fortunate
that most criminal offense busts wind up in the ILETS database,
although come to think of it Boise is way behind putting its cases
in. Thank you for the insights you offer, as experience with other
communities can indeed be very different.

You are quite correct about the further research in all jurisdictions
into the actual background with sources that are not criminal offense
related -- employers, churches, neighbors, other memberships. Given
that 99.9% of pederasts are not known for flaming behaviors, that
0.1% belonging to the man-boy love association or whatever it is
called, though, it isn't likely that employers, churches, and
neighbors will know. The local police department there may know of
rumors, but be nervous spreading them. You might find is the fellow
who got run out of town informally. He who left on the verge of
discovery, or for job-related reasons, may have left no tracks
anywhere.

The one thing you cannot do is trust that if you watch him you will
come to know.

Thanks for listening.

Ted
