You actually have a few other options (speaking as an EMT and a certified
Red Cross instructor)

1. You can rent the books- there is really no requirement you buy them. It
costs less this way, and some chapters might not offer it as a normal
option. If yours does not, try a larger chapter.

2. Call the American Heart Association. They offer a good program as well,
but I have no cost info at this time. I'd bet they have a website! (The Red
Corsses is www.americanredcross.org )

3. I would bet that there is a certified instructor somewhere in a nearby
troop or district! If so, this person can help you make other arrangements.
