Mike,
I normally sit back and wait for you to respond to most of the questions on
SCOUT-L because you do it so well, but I have to take issue with you this
time. The Unit Commissioner works with all the adult leadership of a unit,
not just the SM/CM and assistants. In fact, most of my work is with the
committees of the units and less with the "uniformed" leaders. I am an
observer at unit meetings and on most outings, but I am most likely to have to
say something, whether asked to or not, at a unit committee meeting. It would
be nice if more committee people took basic training. At the CS level the
breakout sessions are designed for the various positions; it might be better
if SMF had the same kind of adaptation. But the worst part is that most
committee members don't take any training at all. And it probably won't make
an awful lot of difference if you had a specialized course. We'll see.
