Re: ? for female Scoutmasters

Anonymous,

I myself say, "go for it" if no men are willing to step forward to be
SM. I think it is very important for boys to have male role models, but
it's also important for boys to have scout troops as well, so my hat is
off to you and I think that the very fact you are taking the request
seriously and raising the quesiton indicates that you'll do a fine job.

You'll find being an SM the mowst challenging job you've ever held (and I
do mean job--I work as hard or harder at being SM as I do my jpaying
job), but it's also a lot of fun and you get an enormous amount of
satisfction out of it.

You sound like you are very expereinced and well trained, and lin many
ways are an ideal candidate for the job. So, good luck and let us know
how it goes from time to time.

I shjould tell you that there are coleagues on this list who do not
believe that women should be scoutmasters. This is a free country and it
is their right to hold that view, and some make compeling cases for their
position. However, I do not share that view.

YiS,

Peter Farnham (and a good old Beaver, Too)
SM, Troop 113
