? for female Scoutmasters

I have been offered the position of Scoutmaster for a troop that has not
been able to find a male willing to take the job. I am finishing up my Wood
Badge ticket, have served on several Scoutmaster Fundamental courses, been
Committee Member and a de facto Assistant Scoutmaster for my son's troop,
and served as Commissioner for troops and packs for about 3 years.
I have been well accepted as a female on any camping trips in my son's
troop, (different troop than the one I was offered), but I am somewhat nervous
about accepting. I plan on visiting the troop next week. My son may not join
me (he is in his third troop, as the first two had NO program, and were really
a Friday night social club), and doesn't really want to transfer again. The
troop we are in now is not run properly and won't be as long as the CC (and de
facto Scoutmaster) is there.
I would like to hear from any female Scoutmaster's out there, so that I
could have an idea of what to expect, both positive and negative. Do the boys
(and parents) accept you and respect you? Are you able to deliver the promise?
Thanks for any help you can give.
YIS,
anonymous (so that my current troop does not know the situation just yet)
