I have a new Unit Commissioner who is tattooed on almost every visible
area of his body ... In addition, he has four hoop earrings in each ear
... He has several nose piercings, and has two spikes pierced through
the bridge of his nose ... he is an ordained minister, and leads a Biker
Ministry here in Tucson. He has been in uniform every meeting, which is
more than I can say for some long-time UCs.
Tonight, however, I was approached by another UC (and "District
Commissioner Emeritus"), who stated his objection over someone as
"colorful" as this guy working in the BSA. He was clear that he was not
"passing judgement" on the guy, but wanted to know if there was a BSA
regulation that covered "body art" and/or "piercings". He stated that
although the guy seems to be a wonderful, kind man, and was concerned
about the message he might be sending to the kids.

Oh, I see, he's not passing judgement on the guy, but he wonders what
kind of message a tatooed, body-pierced, biker-minister might be sending
to the kids. No judgment there. We just want to know if there's some
sort of regulation we can use to get rid of the guy because he's
definately one of those anti-social, criminal types who's obviously bent
on turning each of our boys into some sort of adolescent biker cultists.
But I'm not passing judgement.
Bob, let me ask you this: Does he drink heavily and swear a lot? Does he
occasionally leave the room to shoot up, check on his latest criminal
activity. Are your meeting constantly interrupted by several hundred
armed policemen who want to take him "downtown" to answer a few
questions? Has he offered to set up a body-piercing/tattoo shop at the
next Scout show?
<Bob continued>
My question? Has National addressed this growing trend? If not, this
might be the time to do so.

Why?
