This would certainly be a problem with any change in technology. As a
possibility, I would offer the postcard approach. For example, I am employed
by a manufacturer of industrial control systems. Many of our devices require
software of some sort. When the 3-1/2 inch floppy came into vogue,
supplanting the 5-1/4 inch, we supplied both types of disks in each package.
Ultimately we limited it to 3-1/2 only and included a postcard for those who
insisted on the older format. Now, many systems packages are available only
on CD ROM; you don't get even a postcard to request any other format.
When a Scout or Scouter receives his/her annual registration card, he/she gets
an attached postcard to request a paper copy, a CD ROM if it is ultimately
offered, or the postcard lists the URL for the (not yet existent) on-line
catalog. We just might spare that tree!
