I believe I am sufficiently experienced to address this
question. The answer above is close. I have been
in Scouting for nearly 25 years. This has been primarily with LDS
units, but certainly not
exclusively. I am Wood Badge trained (SR-12, SR-CS-10).

We don't do Tigers. Webelos is only one year. The
first year as a Boy Scout is a separate program - much
like a new Scout Patrol.

The Troop consists of the 11-13 year olds. Teh older
boys are generally in Venturing or Exploring.

I have not noticed that we have a significantly
higher percentage of 12 yo Eagles than our non-LDS
brethren. 16 and 17 yo Eagles are not uncommon and
some never finish at all. Sound familiar?

There is no problem with Saturday Night campfires.
The prohibition is Sunday camping, as the boys
have responsibilities at Church. We generally
packed up after dinner (camporees and such), went to
the campfire, and then went home.

If we had a Jewish Troop, maybe we wouldn't camp on
Saturday. So?

Now we have good units and poor ones, large ones and
many small ones - Is this unusual?

Auntie Beans has gone so far as to e-mail and tell
me that I was deluded if I thought what the LDS
Church did was actually Scouting. I guess I am
deluded.

I constantly work the program. We use the same
8 methods. Actually, I find the differences to
be quite small and easily accomodated. At least
they are in Oklahoma - not known for its vast
number of LDS Scouters.

We could be better trained overall, and do other
things better. As I work in the District and
Council I see that everyone else is working the same
problems.
