Paul: When you said progress or award in your subject title I couldn't help
but let out a slow moan. Sometime back in the late 70's or early 80's
someone in National got the bright idea that when a scout advanced it should
no longer be called a rank advancement but a progress award. This lasted
only a couple of years before it reverted back to rank advancement. The
only ones who I think liked it was the ones who would like to correct
someone for using the wrong term. Unfortunately, some of those same people
still exist today in Scout-L or rec.scouting.usa who seem to take great
satisfaction out of correcting someone over some very minute thing.
Scouting should be fun for the adults too.
