Greetings,
For some time folks on this list know I have been gathering data on BSA
summer camps across the USA. My ultimate goal is to list ALL camps from
ALL councils, whether or not they have a web site of their own. A first
step towards that plan was researching - council by council - all of the
BSA camp properties that have a web site now and placing them on-line.
Alan Houser's Troop 24 site was of great help to me in compiling this. He
has been the only other person I know of to make a serious effort at
gathering this kind of data. When we focused on this effort however, we
were able to turn up hundreds of additional web sites and have finally
constructed the data for all 50 states.
I would invite the Scouts-L list to view this site now at:
http://compass.scouter.com/Camping_and_the_Outdoors/Where_To_Go/Camping/BSA_
Camps/
If anyone knows of a camp I have missed I would be very appreciative if you
could use the "Add a Link" form at the bottom of the page to tell me about it.
If there is a Scout Camp property (of any kind: High Adventure, Cub World,
Traditional Summer Camp, Developed Weekend camp, or just a primitive
camping area operated by a council) please e-mail me with the essential
facts of the camp (Council, location, camp name, and whatever other facts
you know about it.) You might even be ambitious enough to offer to create
a web site to plug your local scout camp. There are a few camps out there
with excellent web sites that were done by volunteers from councils that
still do not have an official web page up.
I hope everyone finds the list useful and will help me make it grow even
more. The BSA is one of the largest landowners in the United States and we
need to get that good news out so all scouting units will have new and
exciting places to camp, wether they are going on a weekend campout, or
traveling cross country.
YIS,
Ed Henderson
