When I was Tiger Partner to my son (now a Bear) one of the den dads planned
an outing to the FAA hanger at National (now Reagan) Airport. The boys got
to climb in and out of several different types of planes - climbing in the
pilot, copilot and flight crew areas, exploring the galley, being shown the
hydraulic lines, cables, how the flaps could raise and lower, checked out
the luxury appointments in some of the planes - even got to kick the tires.
So what was the highlight of the day? The automatic hanger doors opening and
closing. The boys rode the hanger doors as they slowly rolled open, watched
with baited breath while the ground crew towed in a plane, and cheered when
they could get back on to ride the doors closed.
Actually, it looked like fun...
