Re: District subdivisions

Thanks, both Pete and Mike, for the corrections.

Peter Farnham <pfarnham@CAPACCESS.ORG> (and "Professor Beaver",
Mike Bowman) wrote in separate postings:

>Mike I think misstates his numbers for the old (now non-existent)
>George Washington District of the NCAC.

I did. I've been trying to find a copy of the District Summary
that Tommy Thompson, the ADC I worked with, provided me when I
first "signed on" there back in '91. Tommy went onward to serve as
the District's Commissioner later that year.

The one thing I could find right off, was an "Area Summary" of just
the units in the Alexandria part of the George Washington District
(one of 13 ADC "areas" within the District): we had 23 units and
555 youth (which I quickly equate with a *regular District*!); so a
simple multiplication by 13 yields 300 units and 7200 youth (give
or take away a couple of units and a couple hundred youth).

It's REALLY OFF from what I stated earlier:

"The District at one time had more than 4000 YOUTH (no fooling!)
and more than 1200 UNITS scattered out in two counties in northern
Virginia."

Off quite a bit on both units and youth served. Sorry, gang!

Very easily, Pete, when a PART of a District could easily become a
District in its own right!!

The last numbers I had (from 1996) had us down to 1400 +/- and 53
units +/-. Judy, Ted; you two know what those numbers (the "ratio
of professional to unit to youth") are now??

>So far, it's working out pretty well, too. It's nice to have a

Both of my fellow Beavers also would agree as the Professor wrote
earlier, that it makes it easier for the smaller District to find
locations and facilities for District-wide events and it makes it
easier to manage the youth attending the event.

Thanks, guys, for correcting the exerggrated numbers!
