I attach round 3/4-inch brass tags to the handles using brass s-hooks.
You can get 'em at better hardware stores everywhere. I use an engraver
to mark my name and a number. Brass is ideal because it doesn't rust or
melt (at normal operating temperatures). The lid handle and the bail on
the pot each have tags with matching numbers so lids don't get mixed up
between dutch ovens.
