The reason why THAT position patch goes there instead on the left
shoulder sleeve like all other positions is because frequently
Musicians are members of "groupings" either within or outside the
unit. So, like a Patrol, Musicians need to be IDed as a members of
their "own group", hence the positioning of the patch on the right
shoulder instead of the left.
A Musician can also hold a unit position (for instance, Bugler).
This is also the reason why the red border around the patch. I was
told that this, like the Instructor patch (which is worn in the
"right place" on the left) denotes "special skilled persons" within
the BSA, which makes sense (at least to me).
