Hello fellow Scouters,
My son called my attention to a flyer posted on the church bulletion board
last night at our troop meeting. When I read it I though that I should pass
the information on to the list.
I thought that there must be an Eagle project or troop project here.
The flyer was about Project Heifer. It states that they are asking for help
raising funds to send livestock to the Honduras to help the people there
that were affected by hurricane Mitch.
What struck me is that one of the requirments of receiving a goat, heifer,
rabbit, llama, ect. was that the first viable offspring was to be donated to
the village and the first of that animal's offspring is donated and so on.
So it isn't just a handout but a long range building program to help
people help themselves.
Below is a snipet from their home page. http://www.heifer.org/index.shtml

Hurricane Mitch has come and gone form Honduras, but the effects of this
powerful storm are still being felt. Thousands of families have been left
homeless, clean water is scarce, and health officials fear the outbreak of
disease. HPI projects in Honduras have been severely affected, While relief
agencies are providing immediate assistance Heifer Project International is
preparing t undertake essential long-term rehabilitation support.

I suggest that we take this information back to our PLCs and let them know
of this worthy project.
