Female Leader Uniforming Standards, Webelos Uniforming

With regard to the color of Female Cub Leader uniforms, yes you do have the
choice of either the khaki ar yellow shirt. The choice is yours at all level
of Cubs from Tiger Coach to Webelos Den Leader.
Where my thinking differs from one of the replies to this thread is that the
writer inferred that the choice of uniform at a particular level is a pack
decision on having everyone "look the same". While that is nice, I think it
is unreasonable to ask someone to buy more than one uniform for a volunteer
job. If the individual chooses to go for multiple uniforms for whatever
personal reason, thats great. But to require a change may be an unreasonable
financial drain on some people, even with uniform exchange programs.
For some women, they feel the yellow color blouse doesn't look good with their
hair/skin colors and if they wear the uniform to set the example, lets not
force them into what they feel is an uncomplimentary color to match the Pack's
uniifrom theme, when there is a choice available. I was happy to see my den
leaders in any uniform because the boys don't care, they are there to have
fun.
On a related theme, let me expound my thoughts on the wearing of the khaki
uniform by Webelos. We had a Webelos leader in our pack who was very rigid on
the uniformity of uniforms within their den, perhaps a product of her military
family upbringing. She required that all the boys convert to khaki uniforms
when they entered Webelos. My position here is that the choice to buy a new
uniform is a family decision, not the leaders. Let the boys and their parents
decide when the time is right to buy a new uniform. Perhaps the boy does not
plan on going into Boy Scouts, or they just bought a new blue shirt when he
was a Bear and there is still a good years growth left in it. A mixture of
blue and khaki uniforms in the den is not the end of the civilized world.
When my son was in Webelos he was the last one in a blue uniform in his den.
This was not because of financial reasons or any other personal restrictions,
it just is the way it worked out. In fact, my wife had bought him a khaki
shirt near the end of the first year of Webelos but never got around to sewing
on the patches. A week before his AOL ceremony and bridging to Boy Scouts I
prepared the new shirt so that he would have epaulets to receive red loops as
part of the crossover ceremony. Of course we had to exchange the new shirt
from the year previous because it was now too small. BTW, I was the Cubmaster
and my wife was den leader and we have five uniforms between us. So, let the
families decide on the right time to change uniforms.
