Advancement Records "WARNING"

Olan Watkins (OlanWatkins@COMPUSERVE.COM)
Tue, 24 Nov 1998 16:55:43 -0500

It has recently come to my attention that National has put out a notice t=
o
the councils to purge old advancement records that are over 4 years old.

I found out about it when a mother of a Scout in a Troop that I am
Commissioner for, called me to report that the council office could not
verify her son's Eagle application because the early records had been
purged.

I could not believe this could be possible, but after checking I found th=
at
in fact the council office had pitched the older records.

I know that all Scouts should keep their copy of the blue cards and thing=
s
like that, but we all know that a lot of them are forgotten and go throug=
h
the washing machine in the Scout's shirt pocket.

So if you are responsible for keeping the records, make sure that you sav=
e
the records for the kids untill they age out of Scouting, because it
appears that you can not expect to find the records at the council office=

anymore.

YIS, Olan Watkins
