Don't think so. I think the sources have been "infected". First
recorded case of Giardia in the US was in 1970. New Zealand,
which was Giardia-free, reported its first case in 1991.
Who had ever heard of "Zebra Mussels" ten years ago? They have now
been reported in the Ohio River and in Lake Erie. They may well
end up destroying the US shellfish industry.
Show me a mature American Chestnut tree....you can't, there aren't
any left. When young trees attempt to propagate as suckers from
the old root systems, the blight gets 'em before they are 15 or 20
feet tall.

So, while the Green Peacers are out ramming fishing boats and the
Sierra Clubbers are out protesting power plants, the silent but
deadly environmental disasters just seem to slip right by with no
publicity.

Oops. Soapbox mode off.
I really fret too much about this Giardia thing. Got to get a
life.
