Dear Friends and Scouters:

Sorry about the posting that turned up as garbage to many people. I
didn't know about that problem.
Please accept my appologies Here is the message again. Perhaps now I
have corrected the error.

Here is a story that I would like to share with you. May it inspire you
to never give up.

Once upon a time, a boy entered Cub Scouts, full of excitement and
awe at what he had seen
with his parents at Back to School night. He attended and was fairly
active for a year, but
because the program was not up to what he had envisioned, he became
disillusioned and dropped
out, with Scouts leaving a bad taste in hid mouth.
Well, a few years later, another boy moved to town. This boy had
been active in all phases
of Scouting that he could until 13 years of age, and wanted Scouts very
badly again. Since he
and his heavily involved family couldn't find a Troop up to the caliber
they had been working
with in other areas, they decided to start their own. In the mean time,
he and the afore
mentioned Cub Scout, become good friends at school. And because of that
fact, the new kid,
naturally asked his friend to join. And was told no. Repeatedly over
the course of a week,
the same thing happened, Question: Will you come to Scouts with me? You
will like it.; and
answer: NO!.
Time for plan B. The new kid's father, aka the new Scoutmaster,
called the boy's mother
and told her of his idea. Since they had known each other through their
children, and because
of the mother's never ending desire to help, she agreed with his plan.
And on Scout night, the
following Tuesday, the Scoutmaster and his son came to the other boy's
house, and kidnapped him
in front of the TV, right in front of his parents. And an hour later,
that boy decided he
wasn't quitting until he was an Eagle Scout. And four years and a
couple of month's later, *I*
was awarded my Eagle Scout Badge by the "new" kid and his two brothers,
the three Eagle Scouts who, although two weren't
Eagles at the time, helped get me into this mess, and are considered by
me to be three of my best friends. I am so grateful for
the effort that those people put into getting me into this program, that
I can probably never thank them fully. I only hope that I
can, now that I am an Assistant Scoutmaster, bring the same love and
quality of program to another boy or two. That is the
real magic og Scouting, and why we are all here. I would not trade one
moment of my Scouting Career for anything,
obviously, look at what I and every other Scouter gives up to "do it for
the boys."

Anyway back to a lighter note. The moral of this story is,
sometimes you can not take the first response, you sometimes
have to go higher up the command chain, and if you have a good program,
you usually have them hooked. The only flaw in my
logic was when you get in this deep, there is no way in heck you can
EVER get out! *grinning* ;^)
And now you know why I consider myself the only person ever
kidnapped into Boy Scouts. ;^) (If anyone else has a
similar story, I would really like to hear it.)
