I Agree wholeheartedly, the "Evelyn Woods" version of CLBT(Cub Leader
Basic Training) does NOT give new, anxious parents enough of what they
came to get.
>>Snip 2>>The people who participate in Cub Scout Leader Basic
Training are frequently fresh to scouting. I doubt that
they have the background to understand more then 4 hours of scouting
slang.>
Scouting "jargon" has no place in a training course for new parents.
Everything must be clearly stated and given.
>>Snip 3>>There are several suplemental traings available that were

the right thing to do.>
So do I, But AFTER they have the knowledge and tools to give thier boys
a quality program. Supplemental training for these leaders should be a
fine-tuning, not a, "Oh, I Wish I Had Known This Before!" thing.
I disagree on relying on a whizz-bang, 4 hour training course to do such
an important job, New parents want/need help NOW. We labor to find new
quality leaders, we should at least give them ALL the help they need,
right away, after we have convinced them it is precisely what they need.
Also, The long-term results from the "old course" and the "E.W."
version, have been made clear to me. As a Cub Leader Trainer since 1985,
I have been party to some memorable Cub Leader Basic Training events. I
still enjoy having leaders, still in the program, walk up to me and
Thank me for being a part of thier first, and "best training ever".
Since "Evelyn", the most frequent comment I have heard and been told,
"Why Weren't We Given Most Of This Before?"
End of 2 cents worth!
For the Boys, And For Scouting.
