Good for you, Tim! The situation you describe of Wood Badgers usually
(mostly) being there at district events is in fact largely the case in
our district, too (not without some important exceptions, however). At
least here in Colonial district, Wood Badgers seem to know very well that
everything we do is for "the boys," and IL've not seen very much of the
attitude Steve Hoar has unfortuantely come across.
I would suggest to Steve and anyone else who has had this experience with
Wood Badge-trained people--take the training yourself and break the
mold! Set a new standard in your district.
Oh, I would also add that many Wood Badgers who don't serve at the
district level do, however, serve at the unit level, usually in a senior
leadership cpacity. And, of course, some serve at both the district and
unit level!
It just doesn't make any sense to me to say, "The Wood Badgers in my
district are lazy--therefore I'm not going to participate." Too bad--the
scouts we deal with will be the ones who don't get the benefits of the
extra training you could have gotten but didn't.
