Dave,
Boys should be awarded their ranks, when they are earned. This has been
discussed quite vehemently in the past. Every child will advance at his own
speed. My son has frequently gotten his ranks early. Not in September, but
December. Do not hold the boy back. There are plenty of things for boys to
do once they get their ranks. There are arrow points, and loops (computers
is supposed to be a new one.) There are sport and academic pins, as well.
Take the boy that finishes early and make him a denner. He can serve as an
inspiration for others. Often, it takes one hard working boy to motivate
the others to get their work done.
