strength to recover her health fully!
All Den Leaders and PARENTS! I ask you ALL to contact your Den
families, and have EVERY SCOUT and EVERY FAMILY send a card or note to
Linda and her family to celebrate her courage and strength. The whole

The letter below is an information update that Linda's sister Nancy
sends out
periodically to update familiy and friends on Linda's current status.
As you will see, things have been very hecktick here this week. We
appreciate
your offer to take Adam at any time, however my parents are here right
now and
everything is under control. Aimee also came back from college.
An update of the message in the forwarded letter is that as of 7:00 last
night, Linda is off the respirator and breathing on her own. They
expect that
she will be moved out of ICU on Saturday and finish the rest of her 21
day
stay on the 4th floor (Cardiac Care floor). She will be expected to sit
up in
and on the bed today and perhaps walk to a chair in the room and sit
there for
a period of time today.
Things suddenly took some very large giant steps forward this week and
they
are continuing last night and today.
BTW, Fairfax Hospital did three lungs, 1 kidney, 1 liver and 1 pancreas
transplant Monday night/Tuesday and a heart and another lung last night.
Three lungs inone day is more than they have done in one year in the
past.
Linda's transplant, #7, this year is the first time they have ever done
more
than 6 in one year.
Will update as I have time. We may still call on you for assistance
with Adam
until things are back to normal.

Beloved in the Lord,
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may
be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with
the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by
God.
( 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4
)
Fairfax Hospital called us in at 12:30 am Tuesday, August 25. We waited
there,
sleepless, through the night to see if the donated lung would be able to
be
transplanted into Linda's chest. By 10:00 am Tuesday, it was a "go", and
Linda
was taken to the Operating Room. The tranplsant surgery lasted 4 1/2
hours,
from 11 am to 3:30 pm. A healthy, young, right lung was successfully
transplanted. Linda is in Intensive Care, unconscious for 24 hours, on
the
respirator, and beginning the process of recovery.
We anticipate Linda will be in the Intensive Care Unit to the end of
this
week, and then in the Critical Care Unit for another 2 weeks or so.
We thank God that He has provided an excellent lung for Linda. Although
our
prayers had been for a left lung, we learned in the wee hours that the
doctor's chart had shown that the left side was preferred, but not
necessary.
The transplant surgeons said that the lung was too good to pass up.
There were
no complications from performing the transplant on the right side, which
had
been the site of April's lung biopsy. Surgeons discovered lots of blood
vessels from the right lung that were growing into the chest wall (her
body's
response to her disease). Because of this, Linda lost more blood than
anticipated in a "routine" lung transplant, and required a transfusion.
Linda's vital signs are excellent. In apearance, she looks better after
this
surgery than she did after the lung biopsy in April. Her hands are
restrained
so she won't reflexively pull out the tubes. She has a wonderful nurse.
Aimee took the first flight she could when we were able to tell her that
the
surgery was definitely going to happen. Morehouses are arriving this
afternoon
(Wednesday).
I will update as I am able. Please continue to uphold Linda and our
family in
prayer.
With thanksgiving to Him in all things,
Nancy
