My course didn't care if you wore shorts or pants, as long as they were
B.S.A. uniform parts. I feel the same way about my Troop; the decision to
wear pants or shorts on a given day is a matter of personal comfort. I have
boys who would get too hot in long pants on a day when another Scout would
be too cold in shorts. As long as both are uniform parts, I feel that the
concept of "uniform appearance" is met. What we did vote on was the hat:
the Troop voted to adopt the baseball cap, as opposed to the campaign hat.
I believe I was the only Scouter there who 1) owned an official BSA hat, but
2) had to go out and buy another hat to conform to the standard. Don't like
baseball hats.
