This is where your local camping supply store will be helpful (good for their
sales, too). Check and see what literature they have on selecting a pack and
packing a pack. They will most likely have sales and how-to literature on all
backpacking and camping equipment, BTW.
Next, check with your local council's high adventure team ("HAT"). Our local
council here in Orange County, California has a terrific training program run
by very helpful people. You should check with your local HAT for any handouts
they could give you. (Also, look into the BSA high adventure training for
yourself. It is great AND cheap.)
