Re: inappropriate adult behavior

fortunately I haven't had your experience but unfortunately there have
been similar experiences of parents with no training interacting with
Scouts at an activity in a very UN-Scouting way..............as a result
*I* (as CC) tell any parent that is talking about working with the Scouts
to plan on going to Basic Training...........

last summer we had an especially difficult time at camp and in listening
and trying to learn the problem, I realized it all seemed to be based on
adult leaders who had not had any training..............this summer we
had 2 dads wanting to go to camp that had not taken any training and had
not participated in Troop meetings......I told the SM that considering
the difficulty he had last year I felt it was VERY important that we
insist that these dads have some sort of training................qwhen it
became clear that neither would be able to go to Basic Training beofre
camp, I asked them to get the Fast Start video (the hour long version
with all 3 sections) from the Scout office and view it ASAP....they both
complied with this easily.......

without some minimal training in the Scouting ideas, how can we expect
adults to understand what it is we are doing?..............I do NOT think
it is unreasonable to require some sort of training for any parent/adult
who wishes to participate with our Scouts.

Bev
