Adult Participation

Scouters and Scouts-L participants,
Does anyone have a successful formula for building and retaining a strong adult
participation. We are in the phase of Troop growth where we have become a
large troop ( 73 registered scouts), have a very strong, active program. We have
had strong adult participation in the past, but many of these adults are
burning-out and/or their sons have either gone with other interests: cars,
girls, jobs, sports, etc. We have others who obtained the Eagle rank and became
inactive and others who have turned 18. In other words the previous adult
participation is dying out.
Because of our currently strong program we are attracting a large number of new
scouts from council and other scouting references. Many of these parents (some
who are single moms) are looking for a strong troop because they don't want to
contribute, but still want to have a strong program for their sons. This puts
more burden and work on the current scouters.
How have other troops addressed this problem? Do you send out resource surveys
on a periodic basic , such as annually. Do you require parents to commit to
certain activities/tasks ?
Thanks YIS,
