Re: "Camping" Beads

When I was on Cub roundtable staff, we had a bead system for recognizing
attendance and participation in district events. We gave individual
totems to all people who attended RTl, and each month they came they
received either a blue or a yellow bead to string on it. A tan bead was
awarded for attending a training event, an orange bead for helping out
with a skit at roundtable, a green bead for day camp, a gold bead for
making "outstanding" CM, or CA, or whatever (another district
recogtnition), another bead for cub su;mmer camp, and so on.
It's amazing what people will do for a bead! Ithink this is a paraphrase
of a remark von Bismarck once said: "It's amazing what a soldier will do
for a bit of metal hanging from a bit of colored ribbon."
The point, of course, is recognition. It's important. Do it any way you
can.
