reply mostly to Jeff, but open to comments - replies etc.

Jeff,

I have observed that IF you were a former scout, or STILL an Eagle,
no one seems to question your motive or dedication. I also note
that those who NO longer have kids in scouts, but DID, also seem
to pass with out question.

I also note that now that I no longer have sons in scouts, that
I have more time for the training (ie wood badge) that I wish I
had done 10 years ago! I also have more time to share with the
other scouts, and see myself as more laid back, and maybe more
FAIR *shall we say* with other scouts, now that the "competion"
for SPL, and Eagle projects is over.

In fact, I now find that I really miss the time I spent as
an OA advisor, but others, with sons in the program have moved
into that job.

So I find myself now in the roll of training to be a unit comiss.
Not really working with the scouts anymore, and I miss that.

I still counsel 3 merit badges, but it just ain't the same.

I would judge myself as better able to be a leader to all
scouts, than when I had 2 sons in the program. It is hard
not to take care of your own, before the others.

It is sad to think, that my time to directly help and work
with the younger scouts is gone, for now.

I have just become a grandfather, and I would expect by the
time my new grand daughter is ready, BSA will be co-ed! :)

OK, so let the flames begin, again :)

scouter don,
really old and feeble now - see www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~dizard/sidney.jpg
