Adult Patrols

About 7 years ago, I started the Adult Patrol - the Coffee Pot Patrol - in
our Troop for two different reasons than to provide an example. At this
point the Troop was two years old, had a large number of adult leaders at
campouts and was growing rapidly.
1) It was a way to recognize uniformed leaders who were registered,
trained and had camped at least one night with the Troop.
2) It was a way of supplying continuing training to the Troop adults on
how a Patrol should operate by giving them continuing experience in the
Patrol method.
I do not believe that an adult Patrol should ever compete with the Scouts
in any way. I don't think it really provides an example that the boys take
to heart. It does keep the adults out of the boys hair and lets them do
Scouting without the "boys with larger belts" trying to do too much. My
concerns and needs may not reflect those of other Troops and may represent
a very unique case, but the adult Patrol did work for us.
By the way our Patrol patch is home made with "glossy fabric, puff paint on
a standard BSA blank Patrol patch and it is much easier to call the adults
together if there is a "group name" for them.
