Re: [Summer camp advice]

Item one for me is a lawn chair, or some sort of chair with a back.
Sitting at picnic tables with no backs all week long is tough on us
old timers.

Item two for me: good coffee, and my own pot to make it as strong as I
like it. The troop tends to buy the cheapest they can find and then
make it too weak for my tastes.

What may seem like small creature comforts really start to count over
a week.

Actually, the things to leave behind list is more important for me:
Cellular phones, radios (except perhaps weather a radio) tape players,
CD's, laptop computers, etc. I find it really nice to truly get away
from it all for a week. Nothing is more sad than the guy who's
sitting in the middle of thousands of acres of beautiful forest,
trying to check his voicemail or check in at the office, and getting
upset because he can't get a good signal on his cell phone. The world
will live without you for a week, and it will do you good to live
without the world for a week. As the old saying goes; "The graveyards
are full of indispensable men".
The complete break from normal life and the daily chance to be alone
with my thoughts in realtive silence and without distractions is the
main reason I wouldn't miss going to camp every summer.
